Dave Leep sent me an e-mail this morning with these two photos attached. They were taken a few weeks ago around Chicago. Thanks a ton Dave!
As I’m sure many of you have heard by now, Collin got into a pretty bad situation with a railhop gone bad. The photo above was taken after a five and a half hour operation to piece back together the top of his tibia. As well as repairing the tibia, they reconnected his ACL and patella tendon, which also were jarred loose from their normal positions during the crash. I don’t believe that he tore his ACL, but he’s definitely got a bit of recovery ahead of him, so I hope that everyone has his best wishes in mind. Collin seemed to be in pretty good spirits yesterday when I saw him, and Ross reported today that he was moving around on crutches. Looking at the injury in a positive note, Collin got immediate medical care to the spot of the accident, and luckily a doctor was also on hand to give some assistance immediately after the crash. Leg damage isn’t any good, but things could have gotten a lot worse, so we’re all thankful that there were no head damages or anything of that nature. On a personal note, I’m glad Collin is still with us. Even though it’s a pretty cheesy and cliche thing to say, be grateful for what you have, and don’t take it for granted.
Also, I don’t want to sound like a dick, but Collin hasn’t seen photos/footage of the crash, so please don’t ask to see either until after he sees them and decides what he wants to do about them.
This really doesnt have anything to do with bmx, but recently my, and many other of the crossroads riders, friend Frankie Pessetto has found out that her father, Micheal Pessetto, has been diagnosed with brain cancer. Micheal Pessetto has been pretty active with Lansing softball, little leaugue, and lions so you may know him through one of those. He’s a great guy who could really use our help right now. To help pay for the tremendous medical bills they are throwing a benefit and auction at Knights of Columbus (near Lansing skatepark) on Saturday, May 16th from 6-12 p.m. Tickets for the benefit are 20 dollars, or if you are unable to go they will accept outside donations. Frankies pretty sweet and a big fan of Crossroads so anything that you could donate would be appreciated.
The website for the event has a little more information about Mike and how you can help out. http://www.friendsformike.org/Benefit_Info.html
Thanks,
Collin
Brian asked me to put together an edit from the footage he’s collected over the past six months, and of course I said yes. For being a web video, it is still packed with crazy shit.
Going to bed knowing that I am riding bikes all day with friends when I wake are the times I sleep really well. I just had to share that, and I am sure it is the same for others. Today was so good! This summer is starting off great. Okay, fuck the bullshit. Andy picks me up around 1:30ish, we hop in the most gas efficient vehicle on the planet, and make our way to Wilson Ave. My bike felt weird. How does that saying go? “April showers bring May flowers.” Yeah, fuck that, “April showers bring…. I can’t ride my fucking bike.” Whatever, we only stayed for like 20 mins, got some warm-up bowl carvin in our systems.
Lakeshore to Lincoln is only like 2 miles, but Andy pedals like he’s fucking Lance Armstrong. Great, I can’t feel my legs, and the day is just starting. Got to Delicious, sampled some of Kenya’s finest coffee beans, bullshitted about BMX, and then headed back to Wilson. Surprisingly, Luke, Timmy, Clay, and Ben were already there with the big bowl all to their selves. Rode some more tranny for a bit, then took it to the streets. Timmy Theus kills it, as you can see. After a solid street session we headed back to Wilson Ave and met up with some cool locals that go real high. Today was solid. Chicago all summer!
